Winter Theme

Once snow falls, it is time for our Winter Theme.

Every year we notice a number of children eating snow. We talk to the children about the many reasons not to eat snow. Then we help them understand by lining a measuring cup with a white coffee filter and filling it with "clean" snow. The next morning we pass around the cup of melted snow and let them make their own observations. It is usually unanimous — filthy and disgusting and nobody volunteers to take a sip. The demonstration makes a strong impression.

As a follow-up to the song "If Snowflakes Fell in Flavours", the children have the opportunity to make their own "flavour" snowflakes out of tissue paper. When displayed on the walls they gave a magical winter wonderland effect to our room.

We will begin teaching the children how to dress themselves in their snowsuits, hats, scarves and mittens. We hope parents will be pleased with the progress they make over the week.
