Policy Summary

In order to acquaint you with the way in which we administer BWNS, we have provided this summary of our important policies.  In all events, the decisions of the Teachers, the President and the Board of Directors shall be final.

The policies covered include:

Fees

Withdrawal

Absence Notification

Dress

Environment

School Holidays

Arrival

Pick-Up

Fees

All cheques are to be made payable to "Bloor West Nursery School". Any cheques will be returned in accordance with the withdrawal policy stated below should withdrawal become necessary. There will be no refund of fees for temporary absences. Fees are set prior to the commencement of school by the BWNS Board of Directors.

Withdrawal

In case of withdrawal, there will be no refund of the registration fee.

One month notice in writing must be given to the teachers, who will convey the information to the Treasurer. School fees are due for the notice period, even if the child is not attending the school. The exception is if the space is filled, in which case fees will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.

No refund of monthly fees will be allowed after March 31 except in exceptional circumstances, and any such refund must be approved by the Board of Directors. Enrollment space for absences of an extended period of time can be retained only through payment of fees for that period.

Absence Notification

If a child is to be absent for a given day, the parent is asked to notify a teacher at her home number by 8:00 a.m.. If the child is to be absent for a longer period, the parent should notify the teacher in advance of the absence.

If a teacher is ill, Mrs. Chow will telephone one of the volunteers on our supply list (which is a list of parent volunteers who sign up in September).

Dress

It is requested that children be attired in suitable play clothing. Running shoes must be worn in the gymnasium. Children may leave extra running shoes in the classroom for this purpose.

Environment

In order to provide the healthiest possible environment, parents should refrain from sending to school a child who is in the acute stage of a cough, cold or other communicable disease.

School Holidays

We follow the same calendar as the Toronto District School Board for school holidays. Note that we do not close for public school Professional Activity Days.

The teachers are also allowed time off to compensate for the time they spend writing progress reports twice a year. Rather than closing the school, they will take turns taking time off and fill in with parent volunteers.

Arrival

The teachers are allowed preparation time until 8:55 a.m. and the door to the classroom remains closed until then. School starts at 9:00 a.m.

Pick-up

Pick-up time is 11:30 a.m. Under no circumstances will we release your child to an unauthorized person. If there are special pick-up arrangements to be made, please speak to the teachers or write a note giving permission.
