Dinosaur ThemeDuring the three-week dinosaur theme, the children play with a variety of large and small dinosaurs in the sand, on the rug and in the block area. Two popular small group activities include a dinosaur jigsaw puzzle and our dinosaur domino game. At the play-dough table, some of the students get busy using the dinosaur cookie cutters. The productions include favourites such as Stegosaurs, Pterodactyl and Brontosaurus cookies. Dinosaur stencils and templates are always available. We also have an assortment of wooden and rubber puzzles, dinosaur sewing cards, as well as a dinosaur magnetic scene. In the art area, the children have fun creating their own personal dinosaur story using a large variety of sponge shapes, such as dinosaurs, a volcano and a palm tree. The class also enjoy going upstairs to the Parlour to watch The Magic School Bus show called The Busasaurus. As a culminating activity to the story The Lazy Enormosaur, Mrs. Chow and the students make our very own volcano. The children marveled to see how quickly the volcano erupted. Red bubbly "lava" flowed up and over the sides of the volcano. This is a fun and quick experiment to try at home. (See BWNS Recipes) Dinosaur songs include: "The Tyrannosaurus goes like this and that", "Oh I wish I was a big fat Brontosaurus", "I like Dinosaurs", as well as dancing to the tape "The Pterodactyl Rock". |
